Thailand Car Production in Feb 2026 Rises 3.43% to 117,952 Units, Driven by Exports and Domestic Pickup Recovery

Thailand’s automotive production reached 117,952 units in February 2026, increasing 3.43% year-on-year, despite a slight 0.37% decline from January,  according to the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI).

The growth was mainly supported by a 22.83% increase in passenger car production for export and a strong 55.98% rise in pickup truck production for domestic sales, reflecting early signs of recovery in local demand.

In the first two months of 2026, total car production stood at 236,338 units, up 6.87% year-on-year.

Passenger Car Production Shows Mixed Signals

Passenger car production totaled 34,951 units in February, down 8.47% YoY. However, cumulative output for January–February reached 76,486 units, accounting for 32.36% of total production, up 3.50% YoY.

Breakdown for February:

  • ICE: 15,396 units (-3.79% YoY)
  • BEV: 3,846 units (+71.54% YoY)
  • PHEV: 770 units (-65.42% YoY)
  • HEV: 14,939 units (-15.67% YoY)

📌 The data highlights strong momentum in BEV production, a sharp contraction in PHEV, and a slowdown in HEV output.

Commercial Vehicle Production Remains Strong

Total commercial vehicle production reached 83,001 units in February, increasing 9.42% YoY, while January–February output rose 8.56% YoY to 159,852 units.

1-Ton Pickup Trucks

  • February: 81,545 units (+8.80% YoY)
  • Jan–Feb: 157,013 units (66.44% of total production, +7.87% YoY)

Breakdown for February:

  • Pickup (single cab): 12,858 units (-33.92%)
  • Double cab: 51,969 units (+27.41%)
  • BEV pickup: 460 units (+100%)
  • PPV: 16,258 units (+10.57%)

Exports Continue to Drive Production

Vehicles produced for export totaled 81,006 units, accounting for 68.68% of total output, up 4.59% YoY.

  • Passenger cars for export: 16,458 units (+22.83% YoY)
  • Pickup trucks for export: 64,548 units (+0.77% YoY)

In Jan–Feb:

  • Export production totaled 160,692 units (67.99% of total output, +5.37% YoY)

Domestic Production Recovers, Led by Pickup Trucks

Production for domestic sales reached 36,946 units (31.32% of total output), up 0.97% YoY.

February Highlights:

  • Passenger cars: 18,493 units (-25.40% YoY)
  • Pickup trucks: 16,997 units (+55.98% YoY)

In Jan–Feb:

  • Total domestic production: 75,646 units (+10.19% YoY)

📌 The strong rebound in pickup production suggests improving domestic demand, particularly in the commercial and rural segments.
