
Thailand's Vehicle Production Rebounds in May 2025 After 21 Months
Thailand produced 139,186 vehicles in May 2025, marking the first production increase in 21 months — up 33.51% from April and 10.32% year-on-year. The surge was driven by a sharp rise in electric vehicle production, with BEVs up 641.16% and PHEVs up 130.49%, resulting in a 63.88% increase in passenger car output for the domestic market and a 138.65% rise in PPV (Pickup Passenger Vehicle) production.
June 24, 2025 - Mr. Surapong Phaisitpattanapong, advisor to the chairman and spokesman of the FTI's Automotive Industry Club, revealed the following production figures for May 2025:
Total car production
The total number of vehicles produced in May 2025 was 139,186 units, rose 33.51% from April 2025 and 10.32% year-on-year.
- Passenger cars: 54,135 units, 15.30% increase (YoY)
- Internal Combustion Engine (ICE): 25,211 units, down 15.78%
- Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV): 6,411 units, an increase of 641.16%
- Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV): 1,837 units, showing a 130.49% increase.
- Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV): 20,676 units, up 34.66%
- Buses under 10 tons and over 10 tons were not produced in May 2025.
- Trucks: 85,051 units, rose 7.37% (YoY)
- 1 Ton Pickup trucks: 84,475 units, 7.86% decrease (YoY)
- Single-Cab Pickups: 10,377 units, down 13.41%
- Double-Cab Pickups: 57,411 units, up 6.43%
- Pickup Passenger Vehicles (PPVs): 16,687 units, an increase of 34.68%
- Pickup trucks less than 5 tons – over 10 tons: 576 units, down 35.35% (YoY)
Car production for export
In May 2025, the car production for export totaled 87,297 units, representing 62.72% of the total production, a decrease of 1.70% (YoY)
- Passenger cars produced for export totaled 18,627 units, a decrease of 26.33% (YoY)
- One-ton pickup truck for export at 68,670 units, inecreased 8.10% (YoY)
- Single-Cab Pickups: 4,976 units, down 7.08%
- Double-Cab Pickups: 51,854 units, up 8.46%
- Pickup Passenger Vehicles (PPVs): 11,840 units, increased 14.30%
Car production for domestic sales
In May 2025, there were 51,889 units produced for domestic sales, representing 35.65% of the whole production, representing a 38.92% increase (YoY).
- Passenger cars for domestic sales totaled 35,508 units, an increase of 63.88% (YoY)
- One-ton pickup truck at 15,805 units, 6.83% decrease (YoY)
- Single-Cab Pickups: 5,401 units, a decrease of 18.52%
- Double-Cab Pickups: 5,557 units, a decrease of 9.42%
- Pickup Passenger Vehicles (PPVs): 4,847 units, increased 138.65%
- Buses under 10 tons and over 10 tons were not produced in May 2025.
- Pickup trucks at 576 units, declined 35.35% (YoY).
