Newly registered xEV electric vehicles in October 2021, down 13% from the same period last year 

The Next-Generation Automotive Research Center under Thailand Automotive Institute released the report on the new registration of Electric Vehicles (xEV) and electric motorcycles as the followings:

The new registration for Electric Vehicles (xEV) in October totaled 2,943 units, decreasing 13% (YoY) and a decrease of 3,684 units in the previous month. However, compared to the same month of 2019, the total number of xEV vehicle registrations continued to increase by 13%.

• For Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV), the new registration totaled 2,724 units, an decrease of 17% (YoY), comprising HEV at 2,457 and PHEV at 486 units.
• The new registration for BEV totaled 219 units, an increase of 138% (YoY) but declining from 256 units in the previous month, according to the steady increasing public interest in EV.

In October 2021, the registration for new electric motorcycles totaled 319 units, an decrease of 12%(YoY) and decline from 399 units in the previous month. Though the HEV new registration decreased tremendously at 85%, BEV made an increase of 117% due to the much higher popularity of the BEV. Therefore, the total number for the new electric motorcycle registration remained almost the same.

Comparing with the statistics of the same month in 2019, the new BEV registration increased 284% whereas that of HEV decreased 90%. This is the result from the increasing public interest for BEV. Nevertheless, the registration number from both types is lower 28% than that of the same month in 2019.

• For HEV, the new registration totaled 35 units, decreasing 85% (YoY) and the number was less than the previous year which 67 HEV motorcycles were registered.  

• The new registration for BEV totaled 284 units, an increase of 117% (YoY) and the number declined from 332 units in the previous month.
